Best time to visit Cape Town by bus
Spring (Sep–Nov)
Wildflower season. Warm days (15–22 °C), moderate crowds. All routes typically running.
Summer (Dec–Feb)
Peak season. Long sunny days (20–28 °C), but busiest and most expensive. Book early.
Autumn (Mar–May)
Harvest season in the Winelands. Golden light, fewer tourists. Great for the Purple Wine Tour.
Winter (Jun–Aug)
Rainy and cool (8–18 °C). The Red route runs; Blue and Purple may be suspended. Cheapest tickets of the year.
Weather tips
- Rain: Cape Town's winter rain comes in fast — pack a light rain jacket even in shoulder season. The bus runs rain or shine, but the open top deck is less fun when wet.
- Sun: UV index is extreme in summer. Sunscreen (SPF 50+), hat and sunglasses are essential on the open-top deck.
- Wind: The "Cape Doctor" (south-easterly) can blow hard, especially in summer. It can feel chilly on the top deck even on warm days.
- Table Mountain: The cableway closes in strong wind (30+ km/h). Check the Table Mountain website or app before hopping off at stop 5.

Beyond the famous stops, the bus passes through some lesser-known spots that are worth a detour:
Woodstock Street Art
The artsy Woodstock neighbourhood is a 10-minute walk from District Six. Colourful murals, indie galleries and craft breweries line Albert Road.
Green Point Urban Park
A beautiful park with a biodiversity garden and labyrinth. Great for a stroll or letting kids run free before hopping back on.
Imhoff Farm
A short taxi ride from Hout Bay. Meet camels, visit the snake park, and shop local crafts. Family-friendly.
Constantia Glen winery
Smaller and quieter than Groot Constantia. Outstanding Sauvignon Blanc and mountain views from the tasting terrace.
Oranjezicht City Farm Market
Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Granger Bay site (Waterfront). Fresh produce, street food and local crafts. Arrive by 09:00 for the best picks.
Signal Hill sunset
Not a bus stop, but a 15-minute Uber from the Waterfront. The best sunset viewpoint in Cape Town — bring a blanket and a bottle of local wine.
